Our Own Little News Page What Happen in 2005 Holy Blue Cows We Won! November 11,2005 Okay, we (the band) knew there was a contest happening during the Arkansas Blues & Heritage Festival. We knew the peeple attending the festival were voting on their favorite "emerging artist" band. But to win something like this is really exciting. This means we have been chosen to play on the Mainstage. The stage where the legends play. The best part is, we were chosen by the critics and fans of the blues who were attending this festival. And that is some serious validation. We are so excited and appreciative for this opportunity. We love playing the blues and we can’t wait to join the other big acts on the main stage at the ABHF next year and for years to come. An excerpt from the Shreveport Times Newspaper… Though the Kings of Pleasure have been hoeing a tough row, their dedication to the blues is starting to pay off. The band was honored as 2005's Best Emerging Artist at the Arkansas Blues and Heritage Festival in Helena, Ark. Formerly called the King Biscuit Blues Festival, the 20-year-old event, put on by the Sonny Boy Blues Society, took place Oct. 6-8. It featured more than 70 acts. Forty-eight of them competed at the festival in the best emerging artist category. What's more, those 48 were picked from more than 1,000 submissions received from all over the world, including Australia, Japan and the Czech Republic. Wayne Andrews, director of Sonny Boy Blues Society, says its a big honor for Dan Sanchez and the Kings of Pleasure to be singled out. "These are artists that are carrying on the tradition and they're also being innovative with the music," Andrews said. "With this award we're trying to give them a seal of approval and say that these people should be watched." Andrews will be on hand Saturday night at the band's concert at Noble Savage Tavern to present the award. The Kings of Pleasure also will play the Highland Jazz and Blues Festival, which is set to take place from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday. In addition, the band will be featured in an upcoming issue of Blues Revue, a well-respected magazine, and on the Web site www. barrelhouseblues.com. Complete Article October 12th - 28th Divide & Conquer Tour Dan and Don will be teaming up with Scotty Boy Daniel & Jerry Riccardi for a momentous road tour in the last half of October. Although I (Jball) won't be there with them, it's still going to sound excellent. I know this because I have had the opportunity to play with both of them. Jerry helped us out at the AHBF and Scotty Boy was part of the Harmonica Summit that never actaully happned. This may be your only chance to see this combination of blues players. They are going to be everywhere! Just check out the events calander on the home page. Arkansas Blues & Heritage Festival Saturday, October 8th Dan and the guys performied at the Arkansas Blues & Heritage Festival. Formally known as the King Biscuit Blues Festival, The ABHF was some great exposure for the band. When they began their set at 6:30 PM there were only a few friends and family members around to support them. But by the time they finished the entire area in front of the Emerging Artist Stage was full of new fans. A nice couple from St. Louis Missouri said, "We were in our car, getting ready to leave, when we heard the band start playing. We had to go back and check it out. We are going to vote for ya'll to come back and play on the Main Stage." Pretty cool compliment. So don't wait to book a hotel, they fill up a year in advance. This festival is huge. If you like blues, then this is the place to be every second weekend October. Harmonica Summit September 24th Hurrican Rita struck as high as Shreveport. All the thunder storms rained on our parade. Our scheduled Harmonica Summit was cancelled due to rain, lots and lots of rain. Dan Sanchez and The Kings of Pleasure were scheduled to host the first ever Harmonica Summit in Shreveport Louisiana at the Red River District, but they were denied by Rita. We will be trying again next year. September 2005 The Uglyfest, September 16th, 17th, & 18th. The Uglyfest was another great successful cancer benefit. UMF of Northwest Louisiana were party'n for a great cause and we were there to pitch in. The UMF Of America had UGLYFEST on September 16th, 17th, and 18th. For those of you that have never been to "UGLYFEST"....its a party that is held every year, and I promise, you have NEVER been to a party like this. ANYTHING GOES!...and I do mean ANYTHING! There is always Live music, wet t-shirt contests, Jello wrestling. etc.... If you are interested in going next year here are the directions: Take hwy 80 to the Texas state line and it will be on the right just before you get to the state line. Just look for the UMF banner next to the road. Make sure to bring a tent or camper. $10 will get you in for all three days. We help out every year so keep in touch with us for next year's dates. August 2005 Back to New York at the end of August for the third time in 2005. Mr. Bobby Lewis (drums) was on the road with us for the first time. The trip was pretty fun. August 2005 Our New Live CD is officially released as of August 20, 2005. We have had several CD Release Parties and so far we have got some pretty great reviews. John Ellis, the host of the radio show Blues After Hours on Red River Radio said, "I couldn't quit listening to it. Your CD is the essence of the blues." This is a compilation of live performances recorded in 2004 and 2005. It includes other Shreveport area musicians like John Compton (bass), Curt Watson (drums), Cody Lowery (drums) of Systolic, Sid Hydro (bass/tuba), and Allen Mackey (drums). The tracks on this CD are all live recordings and it captures the true energy of the band. So keep an eye out for these parties and a chance to buy your very own Dan Sanchez And The Kings of Pleasure CD. June of 2005 Dan Sanchez and The Kings of Pleasure were crowned first runner-up at the Sonny Boy Blues Society annual battle of the bands in Helena Arkansas. This is a great honor and a true acknowledgement of their talents and efforts. They will be appearing on the Emerging Artist Stage at the 20th annual Arkansas Blues & Heritage Festival, formally the King Biscuit Blues Festival, also in held Helena Arkansas. Preserve the blues.
